Headnut.org was started on November 11, 2001 just after 1:30am, as an educational exercise in running a server connected to the Internet.

The domain name was chosen from a nickname given to me by Father David Brown, S.J. He was my high school physics teacher and good friend, always calling me a “nut.”

The original web server that ran Headnut.org was a Pentium III 850 MHz machine with 256 MB of RAM and three ATA hard drives for a total of 340 MB of storage. Since it ran Red Hat 6.0 at the time, the name “Clifford” was chosen from the children stories of “Clifford the Big, Red Dog.”
