Amateur Radio (KG4YSN)
From my instant messenger screen name to my car's license
plate, the letters KG4YSN appear repeatedly
in my life. This is my amateur radio call sign. I am
a ham.
When I was a student at Georgia Tech, I was part of the Linux Users Group @ Georgia Tech. As I established friendships with folks like David Cantrell and John "Reeves" Hall, they began to introduce me to the world of amateur radio. It was yet another way to explore my geek side.
After moving out to California and getting interested in emergency response (after personal experience with Hurricane Katrina), I got involved with the Amateur Radio Packet Relay Network. When Doug Thom, the coordinator for Northwestern California, was ready to retire, I took over the reigns and have been helping ever since.
Most recently, I passed the FCC certification exam to upgrade my license from the entry-level Technician class to the mid-level General class.
