The baby by the bay

Today, we met some the Donovans and the Jacksons up in San Francisco marking David’s first trip to the Ferry Building.  As you can see below, he spent the time crawling on his blanket and climbing on his dad.

In the last week, David has completely mastered crawling and sitting.  He’s also started to pull himself up on things (note the pampers box below.)  Sometimes, he’ll even “walk,” pushing the box along with him.  He’s also started to eat chunks of solid food, since doesn’t seem too fond of purees.  Most of the food ends up on the floor, but he has fun in the process.

In other news, we have a raccoon that keeps getting into our recycling and trash.  As such, we’ve had to move the recycling and trash to our dining room table.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Our little guy has been busy!  Now that David can crawl, he has been getting into EVERYTHING.  He’s keeping us on our toes, for sure!  He’s gotten much better at crawling and is almost sitting up all by himself.  To add to his excitement, we celebrated Mardi Gras with a visit from Gigi (aka Camille) and Grandpa Greg.  David loved all of the extra attention.

Six months!

On February 5th, our little man turned 6 months old!  It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a half of a year!  He’s weighing in at 19 pounds 3 ounces and is 27 inches long.  That’s puts him right at the 75th percentile for both height and weight.  He has two teeth and is already mobile!  He doesn’t crawl quite yet, but he does this cute inch-worm like movement to move from place to place.  It’s surprisingly effective.

The little guy at 6 months – note the barely visible teeth.
“Mmm … Mom, your toe is so tasty!”

“Doing taxes?  Let me help!  I’ll handle that 1099-DIV for you.”

“Mmm … banana mush in a bag.”
“Ooo!  I got your computer!  Can I go to the SVCUG now?”
“Yea!  Dad’s power cord!  I love this thing!”
“Mmm … tastes like king cake!”

“Mmm … tastes like jungle.”

“Ahhh … there’s no better way to end the day than relaxing in a your own personal spa.”

Some pics from a few recent hikes

We’re thrilled that we’ve been able to get outside and enjoy the incredibly nice weather we’ve been having.  We’ve taken David on a couple of hikes – he seems to really like them!  Here are a few pics from our hike in Wilder Ranch State Park (with friends Chris, Katie, Jacob, and Alex) and Edgewood County Park.
The only downside to all of this sunshine is the lack of snow in Tahoe … we have a ski trip planned for later this month, but it looks like we may be canceling it.

Teething, crawling, and nudity

In the past two weeks, David has really started to change!  First, all that teething that began a few months ago is finally starting to show through.  His back molar is quite visible through the gums, though is being stubborn and not actually breaking through.  In addition, his front bottom tooth has a sharp little white point that is exposed.  Needless to say, he’s chewing on practically everything he can get his hands on!

Second, he’s giving crawling the old college try!  David has a few basic techniques at this point, none of which individually count as crawling, but are all on the path towards it.  Sometimes, he’ll actually do a “push-up” — whole body off the ground, suspended at his wrists and toes — and then push himself backwards.  Other times, he’ll get his knees underneath his hips with his shoulders still firmly on the ground.  This usually results in some inching forward, though mostly his hips crash to the ground and he flounders his legs for awhile.
He’s great at rolling, and actually has a 1-meter radius within which he can travel now.  It’s usually a multi-step endeavor to roll to his final spot, but it’s definitely a big change from a few weeks ago.  We’ve now begun the baby-proofing in earnest as a result.
Finally, David’s embraced his inner nudist!  He has a small diaper rash on his bum, so we’re letting him “air dry” about 15 minutes before his evening bath to help clear it up.  He fusses a little while getting his clothes off, but then LOVES to play on the floor while baring it all!
And just for good measure, one of my favorites from the past week:
